Charles H. Johnson was a secretary of the New York State Board of Charities and was active in the Russian famine relief efforts of the American Relief Administration.
Scope and Content Note:
These papers are divided into two components. The first component consists of pamphlets and publications of the American Relief Administration (A.R.A.) including newsletters, information leaflets, reports, blank forms, and a membership list. This component also contains a large number of memoranda dealing with Russian famine relief efforts of the A.R.A.
The second component of the collection consists exclusively of newspaper clippings and articles on the famine, the Bolshevik Revolution, Marxism, communism, Russian literature and a large number of reviews of books on Russia from the New York Times Book Review section.
